Speaker: Andrew Baker whose topic will be "Comparison of growing conditions in tropical vs subtropical regions".

Andy will be discussing his observations between growing conditions down in sub tropical climate zones compared to those of tropical climates found in North Queensland. It is well known that a majority of plants really thrive in the conditions up north, however, advantages of conditions here in the south can be forgotten! Over the last six years, Andy has been lucky to have spent a reasonable amount of time “up north” where he has been able to make some rather interesting observations and draw some fascinating conclusions!

Andy is the current president of the Aroid Society of Australia (ASA) and has been a keen plant collector for the last 7 years.  Andy grows a range of plant families including Tassel ferns, Nepenthes, Palms and obviously Aroids, which will be the dominate feature in his presentation.

As a Physiotherapist, Andy’s background in science really collides with his plant passion as he strives to come up with ways to improve both plant growth and yield through alteration of growing media, temperate modulation and humidity control.
